ReTheory Session #9

This winter semester, Timothy James LeCain, Professor of History at Montana State University, is joining us as a guest at the Leibniz ScienceCampus “ReForm.”

During his visit, Professor LeCain will deliver a lecture as part of the ReForm colloquium/house colloquium of the Institute of Archaeological Studies. Moreover, early career researchers interested in delving deeper into LeCain’s research will have the opportunity to participate in an early career workshop. Scheduled for December 19, 2023, at 16:00 (s.t.), the workshop will be organized by ReForm-PI Jun. Prof. Dr. Tina Asmussen. Tina Asmussen will orchestrate a discussion round with Timothy LeCain in the conference room of the German Mining Museum. Two texts by LeCain will serve as the foundation for exchanging ideas.

To make the most of this occasion, we will offer a collaborative preparation for the workshop in the next ReTheory meeting. Set for December 15, 2023, at 14:00 (c.t.), this session will revolve around a discussion of two texts selected by Tina Asmussen. As always, we invite everyone interested to join us in this session!

ReTheory Session #7

In the summer of 2023, we will dedicate the first two ReTheory sessions to prepare for the ReForm conference ‘Resource – Event – Practice‘ (22.06.–24.06.23) at the FernUniversität in Hagen, especially for the ‘Hands-on-Session’ with Ian Hodder (22.06.23). We will delve into Ian Hodder’s entanglement concept during two discussion sessions on May 12 and June 12.

For the first time, we will meet from 16:00 to 18:00 on Friday, May 12. All persons, who are interested in the conference, the introductory event, or Hodder’s theoretical reflections, are invited to discuss selected parts of Hodder’s book, ‘Entangled’, during the seventh ReTheory session. The meeting will take place in seminar room 1 of the Haus der Archäologien in Bochum.

ReTheory Session #6

On January 25, 2023, from 16:00 bis 18:00, we welcome everyone to the first ReTheory session of the new year! We will meet in seminar room 2 in the Haus der Archäologien in Bochum.

In the sixth session, we will discuss what is meant by the term resources and how we can conceptualise them on a theoretical level. For this purpose, we address the debate conducted in the ‘SFB 1070 Ressourcen Kulturen’ in Tübingen.

Fifth ReTheory Session

On December 14, 2022, we invite all interested persons to the next ReTheory meeting from 16:00 to 18:00 in Seminar Room 2 at the Haus der Archäologien in Bochum.

The fifth session will be about the age of anthropogenic transformation of the earth, which has been much discussed recently: the Anthropocene. As readings, we will discuss a recently published introductory text from the history of science and a contribution by the Indian historian Dipesh Chakrabarty.

Fourth ReTheory Session

We are excited to announce the first ReTheory session of the new semester! On November 2, 2022, from 16:00 to 18:00, we welcome everyone interested in the ReForum reading and discussion group. We will meet in
seminar room 2 of the Haus der Archäologien in Bochum.

In the fourth ReTheory session, we will turn to a highly controversial topic that is even finding its way into the newspaper feuilletons: Posthumanism and New Materialism. With a focus on archaeology, we will discuss selected articles from a recent special issue ‘Debating Posthumanism in Archaeology’ of
the Cambridge Archaeological Journal (Volume 31/3, 2021).
