At a time when European academia is increasingly called to critically reassess its colonial legacies, this lecture brings a vital perspective from Latin America. Prof. Dr. Vanina Teglia (Universidad de Buenos Aires / CONICET) is an internationally recognised scholar whose work challenges dominant narratives of colonial history and literature. Her visit to Germany offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with decolonial approaches grounded in Latin American thought—perspectives that remain underrepresented yet essential in current academic debates.
Her lecture will explore her latest research on the notion of “colonial utopia” and the ways colonial texts construct and project images of Indigenous communities—revealing how these narratives continue to shape knowledge production today.
The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion featuring experts based in Germany: Prof. Dr. Stefan Berger (Institute for Social Movements, RUB), Prof. Dr. Jörn Etzold (Institute for Theatre Studies, RUB), Dr. Alejandro Mora-Motta (Global Heritage Lab, University of Bonn). They will explore how colonialism is addressed in local academic contexts. The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Dr. María Esperanza Rock-Núñez.
This event invites scholars, students, and the broader public to participate in a critical dialogue across geographies and epistemologies—opening space for reflection, exchange, and new ways of understanding the past and its ongoing impacts. Free and open to all.
