ReSkill #2: Agent-based modelling - Sitzung 2
Date: 17/02/2023, 1-4 p.m. c.t.
Place: Computerlabor, Hause of Archaeologies, am Bergbaumuseum 31, 44791 Bochum
A personal session (3 hours) in which we go further through the contents of the tutorial introducing agent-based modeling in archeology by A. Angourakis (https://github.com/Andros-Spica/ABM-tutorial-koeln-2022), under his guidance and supervision. For a smoother second session, we encourage participants to read or refresh the Introduction and the contents of Block A, including the hands-on steps of the “Test Drive: Creating a “Pond” Terrain” section. The session will then start with an overview of the first practical steps and the clarification of any doubts related to these.
Please have all tutorial files downloaded and NetLogo installed on your laptop or available on a USB stick, especially if you do not have access to RUB-WLAN or eduroam.
Due to the limited space in the room, we ask all participants to confirm participation by email.
About the tutorial
This tutorial starts with the drafting of a conceptual model and the basics of programming using the NetLogo software and reaches a high level of model depth and complexity, giving some hands-on examples of problems and solutions when using ABM to address research questions in archaeology and history.
In the spirit of ReSkill, the goal of this session is not to replace longer courses on ABM but to serve as a safe place where participants can become more familiarised with the technique and, more generally, programming and computer simulation. We will follow together the tutorial steps, as far as we can, but the emphasis will be on solidifying the fundaments for a longer individual learning process.
